Menstrual blood yields stem cells

November 30th, 2007

Researchers have discovered that menstrual blood contains adult stem cells that can change into a wider variety of tissue types than regular adult stem cells. The researchers did the study because they suspected stem cells might be behind the rapid regeneration of the uterine lining during a woman’s cycle.
So menstrual blood, another part of a [...]

Thank you St. Rose!

November 28th, 2007

I just returned from St. Rose De Lima hospital, where I was invited to come do an in-service with the nursing staff to discuss the procedure for handling placentas that mothers want to take home. What a wonderful, positive experience! It was immediately apparent that everyone in the Labor & Delivery and Postpartum departments truly [...]

Hypnobirthing

November 27th, 2007

Tonight I had the pleasure of speaking to a group of expectant parents, who were going through a childbirth education course offered by Hypnobirthing Las Vegas. It was the final class of a 5-week course, and the topic was postpartum. Among many other topics discussed by the fabulous facilitator (and doula) Sherry Hopkins was a [...]

Blame the holidays

November 26th, 2007

I see that my previous post is over a week old. I blame the holidays.
We went out of town to visit relatives, and were gone several days. The girls were delighted to go to Grandma’s House, and it is always nice to visit. However, it is a lot of work to get everyone packed and [...]

We, as parents? Or the government?
Parents face jail for not vaccinating their children
I am going to quote from Dr. Rima E. Laibow, Medical Director of the Natural Solutions Foundation. This is from a recent edition of their newsletter:
“Thousands, yes, you read that correctly: “thousands”, of parents in Maryland are being menaced, and, more significantly yet, [...]

She and her husband have two market vending kiosks in the city of Zaporoshye, located in south central Ukraine, where they sell a variety of dishes, glassware, table linens and other kitchen supplies. Victoriya and Alexander have two daughters ages 15 and 10.
If [...]

MSNBC called today

November 16th, 2007

I had just gotten my 2-year-old down for a nap this afternoon when a writer for MSNBC Health called for an interview. She’s doing a story on the “new trend” of placenta ingestion and had been all over PlacentaBenefits.info. We had a lovely chat, and she seems like a very nice woman, so I am [...]

Mothering, Guilt, Forgiveness

November 14th, 2007

I was talking to a mother today about the friction that was created in her marriage after the birth of her son. This conversation was sparked by the fact that she and another mama were both experiencing late-onset postpartum depression. Or, they think they might be. They are also concerned about the fact that it [...]

Positively Jumbled

November 13th, 2007

Re-entering daily life after a vacation is always a difficult transition for me. Going from the intensity and beauty of Nature back into Sin City makes me feel drained. So I am going to write a bit about all the positive things that have happened recently.
1. Today I met a gorgeous, brand-new baby girl and [...]

Last day at Zion

November 12th, 2007

We spent some time today exploring the sights in the towns outside the entrance to Zion. We had lunch in Springdale, and then went back into the park for another round of hiking. I am so glad we did. We went through the tunnels this time, and then to the Canyon Overlook Trail. It was [...]
